GCS Theater Review – Blood Wedding

This fall’s play at GCS was Blood Wedding. With a cast of 18, Ms. Jacob put on a fantastic production. It all started at the auditions for this year’s production. Each student who auditioned had to read a small section from the play and sing a few verses from a specific song at random. The plot of this play starts in the Mid-West of America in the 1930’s. A story of tragedy & love. It’s about a woman that loves two men, and causes both families to go into a state of sadness and drama. The end result of the play is the two men come together to fight each other, and they both end up dying, the bride then believes that the blood is on her hands. From the set, to the singing, to the intense acting, these character really put together a fantastic production.

One of the most important parts of putting on a production like this is a good director. “Ms. Jacob is a really amazing director. She really makes an effort to try and make us become better actors and singers,” says Tristan Griffin. One of the most challenging at rewarding parts of the play was the song The Bride Awakes, claimed Tristen. It also happened to be the longest number to put together, due to its complex harmonies. Ms. Jacob definitely had set the bar for her actors, and pushed them to do better; and it really payed off in this song, as it did throughout the play.

Another important aspect of a good play is the music and tech producer. With two amazing musicians playing the violin and the acoustic guitar, they played at a fast and exhilarating pace, uplifting the entire production and captivating the audience. Behind the scenes along with the two musicians was the tech producer, lighting up the stage on cue every time with pages and pages of cues to follow!

All in all, this production was a big success this year. Well done to all of those who played a part in the show, and to Ms. Jacob!
