Fighting Homelessness One Neighbourhood at a Time

Last Friday, May 19, we, at the Students Fighting Homelessness Club, used the money earned from bake sales and galvanized support from the student body to make over 50 sandwiches, as well as purchase 50 accompanying Gatorades, to distribute, free of charge, to the homeless population of Tompkins Square Park. We began our venture at Cooper Square, and we walked East along St. Marks until we reached Tompkins Square, handing out meals at every given opportunity. We managed to give away our entire inventory within the first two hours, which was a fantastic achievement.

Although we fed Tompkins Square for just a day, we know that our service to the homeless of the East Village is just beginning, and we hope the student body of Grace can recognize the philanthropic opportunity that our club provides. This is visible through an interaction
