“Exhibitionism: The Rolling Stones”
The Rolling Stones Exhibitionism exhibit opened at Industria in the Meatpacking District on November 12. Industria is a modern studio and gallery on West 12th Street that has transformed the photo world. A history of the group’s evolution and how they rose to fame was interesting for a student, like me, and having gone with an adult who grew up with The Rolling Stone’s influence in their teenage years, it was absolutely mesmerizing for her. The costumes of Mick Jagger were particularly ornate, showing not only the femininity he encompassed but also the risks he was willing to take, even in the later years of his success. Recreations of the group’s apartments were meticulously constructed to show how they lived in the beginning of their career. The instruments, sheet music, and reconstructions of the recording studio added to the effect of being completely immersed in how the band lived. A 3D video depicting a concert in the later years of the Rolling Stones ended the exhibit on a high note.
