Love for Leadership: Peer Leadership at Grace
Media Provided by Dana Foote
Every other Wednesday, Junior Peer Leaders at Grace Church High School venture off to the Lower School to guide activities, lead discussions, and form genuine connections with younger students. The Peer Leadership program pairs high school mentors with grades 5 through 8 to reinforce the Grace mission: building a school community that feels like family.
For many Peer Leaders, the experience is just as rewarding for them as it is for the kids. “I like hanging out with younger kids,” said Anika V. ‘27, a Junior Peer Leader. “They have interesting things to say and have fun ideas. They provide us with a new perspective.”
Oli L. ‘26, a Senior Peer Leader, agreed. “It is now my second year as a Peer Leader, and I love being in a class with very outgoing, energetic people. These people want to be there to do what Peer Leaders do: help others. The program definitely makes the school more connected.”
For Siena G. ‘27, a Junior Peer Leader, the experience has revealed a whole new perspective. “I never experienced middle school at Grace, but now I get to, and in the least selfish way possible, it is nice to have younger kids look up to me.”
Through laughter, games, and shared stories, Peer Leaders remind Grace students that leadership starts with a strong connection and grows with compassion and care.
