Do We Really Miss The Seniors?
It’s been just over a week since the seniors’ last day, and the school already feels different. Aside from drastically smaller classes for juniors and quieter halls throughout the day, the school is missing a unique ambience that only the Class of 2018 could give.
Individual students have mixed feelings about the seniors’ departure. While some students with close friends in the graduated class already miss seeing their friends in the hallways, others are enjoying the smaller feeling of the school. I asked Malcolm Gibson ‘19 if he misses seeing the seniors in the halls, and he admitted that he misses “the energy that they brought to the school.” He also explained, “It feels kind of lonely here without them, especially on the third floor”. Christina Oxley ‘19 also said that she “really misses a lot about them, like their energy, their presence, and their liveliness”, and that she hopes “they are enjoying their lives post GCS.” Stephanie Cox ‘19 also said that she knows “they will go on to do great things.” Sophomore Julia Kramberg ‘20 admitted that she, too, “misses her friends” and that “the school is a little too quiet without them”. Freshman Julia Williams also said that she “misses their presence” and that “the school feels weirdly smaller.”
Other juniors are already seeing themselves as seniors and are ready to take on their last year at Grace. Luke Morris ‘19 said that he misses “some parts of having them here, but [that he’s] really excited to be a senior.” He explained that the juniors are “ready to be the leaders of the school” and said that the Class of 2019 is “the last of the classes that made up the original high school.” An anonymous freshman said that he “doesn’t really” miss the seniors, and that he’s “not particularly excited to be a sophomore because not much will change.”
In the end, although we will miss the Class of 2018, each grade is excited to move up, and the current juniors are excited to take on their new role as the rising senior class!
