Boys Varsity Basketball Game Recap

The Grace Boys Varsity team played its first home game against Dwight on December 8th,  unfortunately losing by a score of 63-42 in front of a packed gym at 86. However, the score is not indicative of how they played. It was a close game throughout most of the first half until Dwight began to pull away towards the end of the first half. They added onto their lead in the 2nd half, as Grace had difficulty stopping the Dwight offense. The crowd was enthralled with every bucket and really tried to make their presence known with the help of the Grace cheerleaders. Coach Quinn was pleased with the effort but said they still need to work on consistent play. He explained,  “It’s always exciting for our boys to play at home.” He said that the boys’ energy and spirit is higher when they have their peers at the game.  He also said, “Dwight is a very strong team, defending league and state champs, we got off to a great start, but we haven’t been able to maintain consistent play. Our next home game is January 17th. We look forward to having the community support us in the new year.”  Malcolm Gibson ‘19 added on “Home games are fun because they are a lot more personal, and the crowd and drives me to do my best on the court”, He also said. “I am looking forward to the next home game where, hopefully, we will get a W,” Will Simotas ‘19 added on: “Playing at home makes me comfortable. I like our gym. The crowd is loud and really picks us up. We are a team that struggles with depth and gets tired at the end, having a crowd to pick us up is a big advantage. I am looking forward to next few home games as we have been on the road for a while. We are looking forward to having a crowd support us.” Grace hasn’t gotten off to a great start this year but they hope to turn it around as they return home tomorrow at 5:30 pm.
