Students were excitedly waiting in anticipation. Today’s lunch consisted of a flavourful entree of chicken gyro, grilled pita, with a vegetarian option, and delicious yellow basmati rice. Everywhere I looked, the familiar white plastic plates were piled high with the steaming food, enjoyed by many of my peers.

While waiting for food, I chatted with sophomore Nelly Z. ‘26, who usually brings her own lunch but was “extremely excited” to try the chicken gyro and grilled pita prepared by the kitchen staff. After she ate her food, she passed by me in the hall, saying it “tasted amazing.”

When asked if he would rather leave the school during lunch or stay inside for a tasty meal, Jed S. ‘27 excitedly chose staying in school. He said he “love[s] what the menu is,” especially today. He also values how much money it saves, instead of spending up to 20 dollars on a meal nearby.

Student body representative Micah W. ‘26 is often seen in the downstairs commons during lunch periods, enjoying his delicious meal, while doing work. He said that on average, “[he] usually likes the food, but especially today.”

Elena C. ‘27 prefers staying within the school’s parameters rather than leaving the campus during lunch. She says she is “usually pretty excited to eat the school lunch,” and it helps her “concentrate during class,” because of the healthy variations the school offers. From the nutritional options from the hot bar to the vegetables from the salad bar, Elena appreciates the possibilities.

Whether students choose the school lunch for cost benefits, convenience, or purely because of the taste, many students are eager to try the new and delicious menu offerings.

India B. ‘27 is a staff writer for The Grace Gazette.
