In New York City alone, 1.8 million residents will go hungry without this aid. To combat this, the Red Cross Club at Grace is currently organizing a food drive to provide local pantries with appropriate donations.

Starting Wednesday, November 12, 2025, four collection bins will be placed in the lobby for each grade. With every pound of food collected, the grades will compete to see which can collect the most. With every milestone of pounds of food donated, the grades will unlock unique prizes and rewards. One milestone example is 40 house points for 10 pounds of food. Another example of this is a dress-down day after 20 pounds of food is collected. The drive will last until Wednesday, November 26, the day before Thanksgiving.

Now more than ever, a food drive will benefit the community around Grace Church School. Beloved librarian Ms. Williamson commented that “right now more than ever it is important to share nutrition with people who don’t have access to it, or whose access has been removed.” Along with that, she noted another way for Grace students to help those who have been impacted: “Keep in mind pets too,” she said. “We see surges of animals who go unhomed because people can no longer afford to feed them.”

This food drive is an opportunity for every single student to make a tangible difference in their community. It is both a fulfilling and extremely important responsibility that Grace students should carry proudly.

Wesley T. ’26 is a Senior Columnist for The Grace Gazette.
