Over the course of 2020, the film industry saw possibly the most devastating time in the history of the medium. Movie theaters were forced to close down from March onward, leaving theaters with no source of revenue and movie studios being forced to find a way to debut their high-profile projects. The result has been an increase in streaming services, from HBO Max to Disney+ to Netflix. As a result of the shifted film landscape and the rise in streaming, this year\u2019s Golden Potato Award is looking not just at the most beloved film of 2020, but also the most admired television show. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After putting up a poll listing over 20 of last year\u2019s most popular films, both in terms of views as well as critical reception, we were surprised to find out that none other than Disney\u2019s \u201cSoul\u201d was the most enjoyed film of 2020. Getting 28.4% of the votes, \u201cSoul\u201d easily outdid any other film, with \u201cBorat: Subsequent Movefilm\u201d being it\u2019s only competition, garnering 16% of votes. Set in our very own New York City, \u201cSoul\u201d tells the story of middle-school jazz teacher Joe whose life hasn\u2019t gone quite the way he envisioned. As his life continuously becomes less and less of what he desires, he suddenly finds himself in an alternate reality where he attempts to help someone discover their passions, resulting in Joe discovering what it really means to have a soul. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as \u201cSoul\u201d was the undisputed victor in what film was everyone\u2019s favorite, the same can be said for everyone\u2019s favorite tv series, \u201cThe Queen\u2019s Gambit.\u201d It was only a few days back when the miniseries\u2019 star, Anya Taylor-Joy, won the Golden Globe for Best Actress In A Limited Series which is only another feather in the show\u2019s cap. \u201cThe Queen\u2019s Gambit,\u201d which got 34.1% of Grace\u2019s votes, was easily one of the most talked-about shows during 2020, in large part due to the unique story and fantastic direction.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
